Florida’s Department of Health happens to own a site for their abstinence campaign called “Great to Wait.” The site is greattowait, com, the PR rep for the site was interested in buying the domain itcanwait.com to further their reach, however as we see now At&T has laid claim to it. Apparently AT&T had engaged in a bidding war with the Florida Health Department over the domain. Florida is rumored to have had financial backing from wealthy PTA groups who support of abstinence only education.
The domain was held by Eugene Griffstead, what the internet would call a domain hoarder, who lives in Seattle. Griffstead added fuel to the bidding fire by shortening the amount of time the two parties had to make counter offers. AT&T was the last to place the bid and then nothing from the other side. That evening an AT&T tower fell near a residential neighborhood in Orlando striking the house of the PR rep making the bid for the domain. The impact caused a fire and the 32 year old man was burned alive. AT&T is currently making no statements at this time but the tragedy is highly suspect and rumors are continuing to swirl.
