Startup junkie Blake “The Man” Manning, know for successful mobile apps such as, Chimneychangas—a chimichanga delivery service for people with chimneys, has announced today on his GeoCities blog that “every idea ever is now taken.”
Manning also challenged his nearly 7 billion Twitter followers to: “Try to think of something that doesn’t already have an app? You can’t.” One clever follower replied: “@TheManManning: How about an app that tries to think of something that doesn’t already have an app?” To which Manning replied, “OK, you got me. But that’s the LAST APP EVER!”
Upon seeing Manning’s blog re-posted on a Tumblr, Apple announced they will be changing their popular slogan: “There’s an app for that.” According to Apple’s press release the new slogan will be: “There’s an app for that already, don’t even bother your idea is taken.”
The news came as a shock to one startup who thought they had a pretty unique idea. “We’re devastated,” Tim Walker-Walken, CFO for Pissed Off Birds said, “we had this crazy idea where you ‘fling’ pissed off birds from a ‘slingshot’ to kill some ‘pigs’ that were terrorizing them.”
Another mobile app startup, TechThisOut, who refused to believe Manning and commented “your dumb” on Manning’s blog, has reluctantly confirmed that all their ideas for apps in development are in fact taken. Those included apps which:
- Gave you the location of the nearest vending machine with in-stock Twinkies
- Allowed you to resell the Nickelback concerts tickets you accidentally bought instead of clicking on Nickel Creek
- Counted down to the Rapture
- Made you invisible
- Allowed you to hold your breathe underwater indefinitely
- Told you how many marathons you need to run to burn the calories from one Big Mac
But it is not all bad news for mobile app startups though, well, actually, it pretty much is.
