“NYE 2015 gonna be off the hizzy and outta this WORLD!! Goin to mars baby! u better belieb it,” the tweet read.
The singer, who previously had plans to take a spaceflight with Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic, said he decided to go to Mars instead after realizing other people had already visited “regular outer space.”
“I wanted to do something that’s never been done before, and I’m being told that some people have already been to outer space, apparently even the moon.” Bieber told reporters. “Beliebers around the world look to me for inspiration, motivation and guidance. I can’t let them down by being your run-of-the-mill space traveler. And mark my words, the people of Mars will soon be Beliebers too.”
The Biebs will blast off on July 15th next year in order to arrive on the red planet before December 31, 2014. MTV will be documenting the entire journey, which will include a farewell concert in Los Angeles, twenty in-flight performances from Bieber’s spacecraft, and a one-of-a-kind New Year’s Eve show from the surface of Mars.
Whether Bieber and his camp realize the barren planet lacks a life-sustaining environment remains to be determined.
100% of the event’s proceeds will go toward the Bieber Fund, which helps pay for the teen sensation’s sports cars, jewelry and houses. The fund has already raised more than $5 million in 2013 “thanks to Jesus Christ,” according to the singer.
